Improving the corrosion resistance of magnesium alloys is a subject of more research at present, which has a profound impact on the future application and development of magnesium alloys.
The chemical reaction of magnesium alloy with specific conversion solution produces a layer of passivation film with protective properties on the surface. This surface treatment technology is called chemical conversion method. At present, chemical transformation method seems to be a kind of widely used and mature technology, which has been used in the domestic military field in the early years. According to the different conversion liquid, the generated chemical conversion film is divided into chromate conversion film, phosphate conversion film, stannate conversion film, permanganate conversion film, phytate chemical conversion film, rare earth metal salt conversion film, tungstate conversion film, fluorozirconate conversion film, molybdate conversion film, etc. The chemical conversion method has low cost and is suitable for the treatment of complex and large parts, but the chemical conversion film layer is thin (0.5 ~ 3μm) and porous structure, which has limited protection for magnesium matrix, and is now used for inter-process protection and pre-coating treatment in the process of part preparation. Because part of the conversion liquid is toxic and will pollute the environment, the international community has begun to prohibit the use of corresponding chemical conversion processes. Therefore, its future development direction is green and environmentally friendly chemical conversion technology.
